DEEP
Year: 2023
Visual study for DEEP’s large-scale biodiversity monitoring & analysis of the remote Brazilian Amazon.

DEEP partnered with Rainforest Connection (RFCx) and Instituto Juruá to study biodiversity in the Juruá River floodplain lakes in the Brazilian Amazon. The research assessed the impact of protection and community-based conservation strategies on biodiversity around these lakes.
Specialized acoustic recorders were deployed at 144 sites across 18 floodplain lakes.
174 species were detected, comprising 164 birds, 5 mammals, and 5 amphibians. Notably, four species at risk of extinction were identified.

I connected each bird to its call by overlaying spectrograms onto images of the respective birds.
Spectograms generated from each bird’s call.
